IP or Analog (AHD) Cameras? How to Choose

When choosing security cameras, the first decision is usually whether the system will be IP or analog (AHD/HDCVI). Both technologies are used in current projects; the right choice depends on the site and the existing infrastructure.

Strengths of IP cameras

  1. High resolution and detail
  2. Power and data over a single PoE cable
  3. Smart analytics (person/vehicle classification, etc.)
  4. Easy expansion over the network

Strengths of analog (AHD/HDCVI) cameras

  1. Existing coaxial cabling can be reused
  2. Lower initial cost for small systems
  3. Simple installation and operation

Which should you choose?

In a new building or a major refurbishment, IP systems are usually the longer-lasting investment. For small businesses with sound coaxial cabling and limited budgets, analog or hybrid (XVR) solutions can make sense. Hybrid recorders also allow a phased migration from analog to IP.

We can inspect your site and help you compare both options in terms of cost and performance before you decide.
